    Everyday care

To ensure that your IMPRESSA or ENA produces top-quality coffee and functions correctly, the machine should be cleaned and maintained on a daily basis. You should proceed as follows:

    • Empty coffee grounds container and drip tray every day and rinse with hot water.
    • Clean and de-scale the machine or change the CLARIS plus filter cartridge when instructed to do so in the display.
    • Wipe the machine surface with a damp cloth or wipe the coloured front panels with the JURA caring cloth.

    Rinsing the spout

The dual spout should be dismantled and rinsed daily if milk has been prepared to make sure it functions perfectly. Your ENA will not prompt you to clean the dual spout.

    • Tip: Always remove the drip tray for about 10-15 seconds, even if it was already emptied prior to starting the programme.
    • Tip: If ADD TABLET does not disappear from the display, this means the powder chute was not closed properly. Close the powder chute again and the cleaning operation will continue.

    Integrated descaling programme

The descaling programme of your ENA 9 can be started at any time with or without a display prompt:

CAUTION: If the descaling operation is interrupted, there may be damage to the machine and residue in the water. Allow the descaling programme to run to the end.

Note: If you use a CLARIS Blue filter cartridge and this is activated, you will not be prompted to descale.

    • With a display prompt:

When DE-SCALE/READY is displayed, press the Maintenance button under the cover behind the Rotary Switch. EMPTY TRAY appears. Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine. AGENT IN TANK appears. Empty the water tank. Dissolve the content of one blister (3 JURA descaling tablets) in a receptacle with 500 ml of water. Pour the solution into the empty water tank and put it back into the machine. OPEN TAP appears. Place one receptacle under the hot-water nozzle and another under the dual spout. Turn the switch anticlockwise to the Hot Water position. The machine starts the descaling operation. CLOSE TAP appears. Turn the switch clockwise to the Coffee position. The descaling operation is continued. EMPTY TRAY appears. Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container again and put them back into the machine. FILL WATER TANK appears. Thoroughly rinse the water tank, fill it with fresh water and put it back into the machine.

Now follow the instructions on the display.

    • Without display prompt:
    • When READY is displayed, press and hold the Rotary Switch until RINSE appears. Press the Rotary Switch to enter the programme item. C-RINSE appears on the display. Now turn the Rotary Switch until DE-SCALE is displayed. Press the Rotary Switch. EMPTY TRAY appears. Now follow the instructions as described under "With a display prompt".

If DE-SCALING remains displayed for a long time, this means the descaling programme was started with too much liquid or water was replenished before the tank was empty.

    • Tip: Start the descaling programme again with 0.5 l water. All the water in the water tank is sucked out during the programme. Please do not replenish water until the display prompts you to do so.

If you are prompted to descale even though the CLARIS Blue filter cartridge has been inserted, this means the machine was not set to filter use in programming mode.

    • Tip: Remove the filter and run the descaling programme. Then insert a new filter and change the machine over to using a filter.

    Coffee taste and coffee temperature

    Coffee taste:
Are you dissatisfied with the coffee taste? A poor coffee taste may be due to the following possible causes:

    • Filter cartridge: The descaling programme was performed with the CLARIS Blue filter cartridge inserted. In this case, remove the filter, insert a new one and change the machine over to using the filter in programming mode.
    • Coffee beans: Your coffee beans are "sour". Empty the bean container and fill it with fresh beans.
    • Grind setting: If your coffee tastes too weak, you can select a finer grind setting to extend the extraction time. If your coffee tastes too strong or too bitter, select a coarser grind.
Please note: We would normally recommend a coarser grind for dark roasted beans.
    • Coffee strength: You can adjust the coffee strength to suit your taste before preparation. Turn the Rotary Switch before coffee preparation to select from MILD, NORMAL and STRONG. For the strongest speciality coffee, press the Aroma Boost button.

    Coffee temperature:
Is your coffee not hot enough? A coffee temperature that is too low may be due to the following possible cause:

    • Temperature setting: The temperature was set to NORMAL instead of HIGH in programming mode.
    • Machine has built up limescale deposits: If you are not using a CLARIS Blue filter cartridge, your machine might have built up limescale deposits. Check the water hardness, programme the machine accordingly, and perform descaling.
    • Tip: Prewarm your cup!

    Milk foam

If the milk is not frothed correctly, the dual spout may be blocked. Remove the dual spout and clean it thoroughly. As with the other individual parts, never clean the dual spout in the dishwasher.

    • Please note that the dual spout must always be cleaned well after preparing milk or milk foam. Tip: Use the special JURA Cappuccino Cleaner for cleaning.
    • Note: The fat content of milk does not influence frothing. It is also possible to use low-fat milk.
    • Tip: If you are not using a CLARIS Blue filter cartridge, run the descaling programme because calcium deposits in the pipes can impair steam preparation.

    • Tip: Remove the filter from the water tank and run the descaling programme. Then insert a new filter and change the machine over to using a filter.

The descaling programme cannot be started.

    • The machine was not set to filter use in programming mode.
    • Tip: Remove the CLARIS Blue filter cartridge and set the water hardness.

DE-SCALE/READY is displayed for a long time.

    • The descaling programme was started with too much liquid or fresh water was replenished too soon. All the water in the water tank must be sucked out during the descaling programme.

    Caramelised coffee beans

To ensure that your machine provides satisfaction for a long time and to avoid repairs, please note that the grinder on your JURA coffee machine is not suitable for coffee beans that have been treated with additives (e. g. sugar) during or after roasting.

Use of such coffee mixtures can result in damage to the grinder. Any repair costs incurred as a result are not covered by the warranty provisions.
