    Everyday care

To ensure that your IMPRESSA or ENA produces top-quality coffee and functions correctly, the machine should be cleaned and maintained on a daily basis. You should proceed as follows:

    • Empty coffee grounds container and drip tray every day and rinse with hot water.
    • Clean and de-scale the machine or change the CLARIS plus filter cartridge when instructed to do so in the display.
    • Wipe the machine surface with a damp cloth or wipe the coloured front panels with the JURA caring cloth.

    Integrated cleaning programs

Your IMPRESSA machine comes with three integrated cleaning programs. This ensures that deposits of coffee oil in the interior of the machine are cleaned and dissolved in the optimal fashion.

    • MILK CLEANING:
If the machine is used to make milk products, we recommend that MILK CLEANING is carried out every day, also that the combi-spout is removed and cleaned (see picture below). The program lasts approx. 2 minutes.
Open the cover of the programming keys and hold the Milk Cleaning button down until an auditory signal is heard. Follow the instructions in the display. (> Instruction Manual, section 16.10)

    • COFFEE CLEANING:
After 220 draw-off operations or 80 switch-on rinses, the machine must be cleaned. The message COFFEE READY/CLEAN (or, after 260 draw-off operations, CLEAN NOW) appears in the display. We recommend that you run the cleaning program within a day. Open the cover of the programming keys and hold the Coffee Cleaning button down until an auditory signal is heard. The program lasts approx. 15 minutes. (> Instruction Manual, section 16.11)

    • ENTIRE CLEANING:
Combination of the cleaning programs described above. The program lasts approx. 20 minutes. Open the cover of the programming keys and hold the Entire Cleaning button down until an auditory signal is heard. (> Instruction Manual, section 16.12)
    • Note: The factory setting causes a rinse to be automatically initiated 10 minutes after the milk has been dispensed. However, this time can be modified by JURA Gastro service partners. The rinse operation is announced by an auditory signal.

    Integrated descaling

The descaling program for your IMPRESSA X9 can be started with or without a display prompt.

    • With display prompt:

The display shows either COFFEE READY/ DECALCIFY or DECALCIFY NOW. Open the cover of the programming keys and press the Decalcify key. Please follow the instructions in the display.

    • Without display prompt:

Open the cover of the programming keys and hold the Descale button down until an auditory signal is heard.
If only two short auditory signals are heard, the machine has been programmed for filter operation.

    • Note: If DECALCIFY is displayed for an extended period, the descaling program was started with too much liquid or the water was replenished before the tank was empty.
    • Tip: Start the descaling program again with 0.7 litres of water. During the program, the water tank is completely emptied. Please do not refill with water until you are prompted to do so in the display.

If DECALCIFY lights up even though the CLARIS filter has been inserted, the filter has not been programmed.

    • Tip: Remove the filter and run the de-scaling program. Contact your JURA Gastro service partner if the machine is to be operated with the CLARIS filter.

Note: Please remove the CLARIS filter from the water tank during the de-scaling program. If the filter is not removed, the coffee will taste unpleasant as the filter will be soaked with descaling solution.

    CLARIS filter change

The filter change program for your IMPRESSA X9 can be started at any time in either of two ways:

    • With display prompt:
The message SELECT BUTTON / FILTER CHANGE appears in the display. Open the cover of the programming keys and press the Filter button. Insert a new filter and then rinse it with hot water.
    • Without display prompt:
The message SELECT BUTTON appears in the display. Open the cover of the programming keys and press the Filter button until the message INSERT FILTER appears in the display. Insert a new filter and then rinse it with hot water.
    • Note: the water may be slightly discoloured, but this is not hazardous to health.
The first installation of the CLARIS filter cartridge must be carried out by the service engineer. Please contact your JURA Gastro service partner.

    Coffee taste and temperature

    Coffee taste:
Are you dissatisfied with the coffee taste? If the coffee tastes unpleasant, this could be due to any of the following reasons:

    • The degree of grinding has not been set to your taste. Please note that the degree of grinding can be individually chosen via programming.
    • The fineness of grind has not been set to your taste. The grinder can be adjusted with the adjustment rings on the bean containers.
    • Note: Your IMPRESSA X9 is fitted with two grinders, which can be coordinated as follows: left grinder 0%, right grinder 100 % / left grinder 25%, right grinder 75% / left grinder 50%, right grinder 50% / left grinder 75%, right grinder 25% / left grinder 100%, right grinder 0%.
    • The pre-brew time affects the coffee taste. Contact your JURA Gastro service partner to adjust the pre-brew time to your individual requirements.
    • Your coffee beans are "sour". Empty the bean container and fill it with fresh beans.

    Coffee temperature:
Is your coffee not hot enough? If the coffee is not hot enough, this could be due to any of the following reasons:

    • The coffee temperature was not set to HIGH. Please note that the temperature can be individually programmed for each of the draw-off buttons (LOW, NORMAL or HIGH).
    • If you are not using a CLARIS filter cartridge, your machine may be furred. Check the water hardness, programme this correctly and de-scale the machine.
    • Tip: Heat up your cup in advance!

    Milk foam

If the milk will no longer go frothy, we recommend that you carry out Milk cleaning. See “Integrated descaling program for the IMPRESSA X9” in these FAQs.

    • Tip: If the machine is used to make milk products, we recommend that milk cleaning is carried out every day.
    • Tip: For cleaning purposes use the special Cappuccino cleaner.
    • Tip: Make sure that all the parts of the spout are assembled correctly and compactly.
    • Note: The fat content of the milk has no effect on the froth. Even skimmed milk can be used.
    • Tip: Calcium deposits can have an adverse effect on dispensing steam. If you are not using a CLARIS filter cartridge, the descaling program can be run at the appropriate time.

    Display and text messages

The message DECALCIFY or DECALCIFY NOW appears in the display:

    • Run the descaling program in accordance with section 16.4 of the Instruction Manual.
    • The descaling program was started with too much liquid or the machine was replenished with fresh water too early. During the descaling program, the water tank must be completely emptied.
    • Tip: Run the descaling program again with 0.7 litres of water.

SELECT BUTTON is displayed, but the coffee tastes unpleasant.

    • The degree of grinding has not been set to your taste. See also: Tips and questions about coffee taste and temperature with the IMPRESSA X9 (Link)

If the SELECT BUTTON / FILL COFFEE BEANS / GRINDER LEFT message does not go out, this could be due to one of the following reasons:

    • The display only goes out after a drink has been dispensed.
    • The sliders (locking device for the been container) were closed (see Instruction Manual, Fig. 10).
    • There may be a foreign object in the grinder (see Instruction Manual, section 16.15 “Stone removal”).

The message CHECK BEAN CONTAINER is displayed:

    • The sliders (locking device for the been container) were closed (see Instruction Manual, Fig. 10).

    MALFUNCTION is displayed:

    • This message could have a number of causes. Please contact your stockist.

    Caramelised coffee beans

To ensure that your machine provides satisfaction for a long time and to avoid repairs, please note that the grinder on your JURA coffee machine is not suitable for coffee beans that have been treated with additives (e. g. sugar) during or after roasting.

Use of such coffee mixtures can result in damage to the grinder. Any repair costs incurred as a result are not covered by the warranty provisions.
